Naval Surface Warfare Center, Crane Division (NSWC Crane) officially opened its new Strategic Weapons Systems Engineering Facility June 13, 2012 with a ribbon cutting ceremony.
The new facility provides NSWC Crane’s Strategic Missions Center with increased support to consolidate all of the resources and technical assets into a single state-of-the-art complex while expanding its
capabilities in research and development, test and evaluation, radiation-hardened microelectronics, failure and material analysis, and electrical design for critical trusted electronic technologies.
“The new Strategic Weapons Systems Engineering Facility will foster a renewed environment of knowledge sharing and consolidated engineering expertise.” said NSWC Crane Commanding Officer, Col Alan Pratt. “With the addition of this facility and our over 50 year history with the Strategic Systems Program, we will be able to provide a robust engineering capability in trusted, high reliability microelectronics solutions.”
In attendance were, CAPT Johnny Wolfe, Technical Division Director, Strategic Systems Programs, Mr. Don McCormack, Technical Director, Naval Surface Warfare Center, NSWC Crane leadership and staff, Indiana State Representatives and Congressmen. Guests were treated to a ribbon cutting ceremony followed by a cake cutting ceremony and tours of the new facility.
The facility features approximately 51,000 sq ft of additional space permanently attached to the existing Strategic Missions Facility. The two-story structure’s lower level hosts several laboratories with the
upper level consisting of laboratories, hard walled offices, conference rooms, and open office areas. The facility is highlighted by a 33 foot tall Trident C4 missile display which stands in a glass enclosed atrium.
NSWC Crane is a Naval laboratory and a field activity of Naval Sea Systems Command (NAVSEA) with focus areas in Special Mission, Strategic Missions and Electronic Warfare/Information Operations. The Warfare
Center’s research and development efforts support the Warfighter by providing capabilities and resources to advance technologies for the military.
