Naval Support Activity Crane (NSA Crane) is a military installation located just 82 miles southeast of Indianapolis, 99 miles northwest of Louisville, and is prominently located in Martin County, IN. Named after Commodore William M. Crane, the base began operations in 1941 under the Bureau of Ordnance as the Naval Ammunition Depot for the production, testing and storage of military weaponry. Today, NSA Crane is the third largest naval installation in the world and includes the Naval Surface Warfare Center Crane (NSWC Crane) and the Crane Army Ammunition Activity Crane (CAAA) as well as other tenants.
NSWC Crane is a naval laboratory and a field activity of Naval Sea Systems Command (NAVSEA) with focus areas in Strategic Missions, Expeditionary Warfare and Electronic Warfare. CAAA’s mission is to safely receive, inspect, store, ship, renovate, demilitarize, and manufacture conventional ammunition, missiles, and related components to support Army and Joint Force readiness.
Martin County is proud to be the home of NSA Crane and provides a friendly, welcoming, and patriotic community to more than 5,000 civilian and defense contractor employees.
